Accommodation

Conference Accommodation
Accommodation has been reserved in a variety of hotels in Edinburgh City Centre ranging from 3 star to 5 star hotels.  In order to qualify for the rates given below, reservations should be made using the registration form. All rates quoted are per room per night and include breakfast and taxes.

Rooms will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis. The full amount must be paid in advance to confirm the booking.  If you need to cancel your reservation we will not be able to refund any accommodation fees after 3rd July 2009.

If you do not arrive at your accommodation on the due date, any subsequent nights will be cancelled.

On a Budget?
If the rooms in the cheaper hotels below are showing as fully booked, you are welcome to contact the hotel and make a booking with them directly.

If you wish to share a room with a colleague to reduce your accommodation costs, please book a TWIN room.  Only one of you will need to make the accommodation booking and payment on the online registration form.  Please decide between yourselves who will do this.

Social Programme

Welcome Reception
Sunday 6th September 2009 18.15hrs – 20.00hrs
The Welcome Reception will take place at the conference venue. This an informal evening open to all delegates at no extra cost. Please indicate that you wish to attend on your registration form.

Visit to a Special Darwin Exhibit at the John Murray Archive
Tuesday 8th September 2009 15.00 – 16.30
We are sorry to announce that, due to circumstances outside our control we have had to cancel the Darwin event at John Murray Archive. Building work at the National Library of Scotland has run behind schedule and the Archive is unable to host the event. We will refund the £5 paid at registration.
Darwin was a student in the Medical School in Edinburgh and the University Visitors' Centre has a small exhibit about Darwin in
Edinburgh which you may like to see. The Visitors Centre is open 9.30 to 5.30, Monday to Saturday, and is located in the new award winning Informatics Forum building http://www.ed.ac.uk/maps/buildings/visitor-centre

Conference Dinner
Wednesday 9th September 2009 20.00hrs – 00.00hrs
The Conference Dinner is being held at Dynamic Earth which is a unique visitor attraction in Edinburgh that tells the story of our planet's past present and future.  A pre-dinner drinks reception will be held in the galleries where delegates will be able to view the spectacular exhibition. This will be followed by a 3 course dinner (including a Scottish piper toasting the haggis in the stunning restaurant next to the Scottish Parliament and overlooking Holyrood Park. A traditional Ceilidh will follow dinner. A cash bar will be provided. Transport to the venue from the EICC will also be provided and there will be a limited number of coaches at the end of the evening to return guests to the conference hotels. The first return coach will depart at 23.00 and the last at midnight. Transport to the venue will also be provided.  Cost £45.00 per person.

Things to do in Edinburgh

The world renowned Edinburgh Festival runs through the whole of August and finishes with a magnificent 30 minute fireworks display which are set off from Edinburgh Castle and can be viewed for free on Sunday the 6th September. This is an event not to be missed.
